2022-OngoingCollecting unused fabrics from the Fashion Department at Parsons School of Design, which currently has no built-in fabric recycling system. Transform waste fabrics into utilitarian goods, such as blankets, and distributing them to local community members in need.
DESIGN FOR BETTER.
Collecting abandoned waste fabrics from Parsons Fashion Studios to up-cycle into utilitarian goods
OUR MISSION
1. Minimize fabric waste
2. Help the underserved community
3. Zero waste up-cycling philosophy
OUR UPCYCLING STORIES
Just because a fabric was abandoned doesn't mean the final product has to reflect that. We clean and trim each piece of fabric with care, upcycling it to the highest possible quality.
DESIGN AS A COMMUNITY SERVICE
Parsons School of Design has a world-renowned Fashion Department, but yet has no fabric recycling system. The amount of fabric waste generated is extremely high.
STARTING A NEW ORGANIZATION
Starting a new student organization, Fashion Design Community Service Club. It is open to all students of The New School. No experience, degree, or background requirements to join.
MEMBER RECRUITMENT
I made a series of flyers to recruit members who also want to help out the local community and reduce fabric waste.
FDCSC WITH OVER 50+ MEMBERS
FDCSC had over 50 members at just over a year.
I am so grateful for each and every student that pitched in when they didn’t need to, so that we may reach towards a common goal bigger than ourselves.
