Dynamic discount system for ready-to-eat goods in grocery stores. Optimizes pricing based on time, to minimize food waste and reduce surplus production.
CURRENT PROBLEM
Food waste is often rampant within supermarkets and grocery stores, where daily-made goods are often made in surplus and the remaining stock discarded at the end of the day.
OVERFLOW GOAL
The optimization of processes, and therefore minimization of waste,
is at the core of my ethos as a designer. Overflow is a time-based pricing system that seeks to optimize product freshness with
consumer demand.
THE PURPOSE
Overflow distinguishes itself from other food-based applications
with its unique time-based discount system. The design strategically focuses on highlighting this feature to ensure maximum customer visibility and engagement.

Overflow is committed to reducing food waste, optimizing fresh
food demand, and promoting a zero-waste philosophy.
DESIGN PROCESS
The logistics and quantities of ready-to-eat food production varies from store to store, but largely follows the same format of production in the morning, stamped with date and time of production, and stagnating throughout the day.
Overflow is the consumer counterpart to this system, allowing customers to scan and view the current discount rate and product
price in real time.
POTENTIAL MERCHANT USERS
This map shows a list of supermarkets and grocery stores which produce daily-made, ready-to-eat goods, and would therefore benefit from using the Overflow system. The corporations are cross-analyzed by size and price.
MARKET ANALYSIS
Analyzing apps that also deal with surplus items and discounted prices. None have the dynamic pricing structure of Overflow.
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE & LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAME
Information architecture and wireframes strip away unnecessary UI elements and boost user engagement—especially when users feel unsure about the system.
USER RESEARCH
The research analyzes users and merchants who would be interested in the Overflow. Illustrates users' expectations from the application and examines how merchants manage prepared meals and surplus products within the current system. Pays attention to their pain points, needs, and issues

PAINPOINT MAP & USER NEEDS
IIdentifying pain points for both merchants and users is critical to uncover why they turn to Overflow and what they truly need.
NEXT STEP
The main ongoing process with Overflow is with ease of use and streamlining the transition process for stores and employees. New systems of technology are often daunting to employees who are
used to a traditional POS system, and lowering this barrier of entry is key in allowing Overflow to reach a broader customer base.
